ITINERARY

Fly to Bhutan and arrive at Paro International Airport. After completing immigration formalities, proceed to Thimphu, which is about an hour and a half drive away. The scenic route follows the Paro River until Chuzom, where it bends towards the Thimphu River, leading to the capital city. En route, stop at Tachogang Lhakhang for a leg stretch or enjoy the views depending on your arrival time. If time permits, explore Thimphu city by walking through its streets, offering a mix of modern and traditional Bhutanese experiences. Spend the night in Thimphu, at an altitude of 2400m.

Thimphu, the bustling little city, is the main center of commerce, religion, and government in Bhutan. Despite modernization, it retains its cultural identity and values. Visit the Folk Heritage Museum to gain insights into Bhutanese material culture and way of life, especially in remote parts of the country. Then, visit the Buddha Dordenma, located at the top of a hill in Kuensel Phodrang Nature Park, offering a panoramic view of Thimphu valley. Drive past the National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the Late Third King of Bhutan and dedicated to world peace. Explore the vibrant weekend market, offering a wide range of local vegetables and fruits. Witness live archery matches at Changlimithang, showcasing Bhutan’s national sport. Overnight in Thimphu.

Start a scenic drive to Punakha from Thimphu, crossing the Dochula pass. This two-hour drive descends into Wangdue and Punakha, one of the warmest places in Bhutan. Dochula pass offers a stunning 180-degree panoramic view of the Great Himalayan mountain ranges. Visit the Punakha Dzong, built in 1637, known as the Palace of Great Happiness. The Dzong stands at the meeting point of the Phochu and Mochu rivers, making it the most photogenic Dzong in Bhutan. Visit the Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest of its kind in Bhutan, connecting the Dzong with nearby villages. Spend the night in Punakha, at an altitude of 1350m.
